NEW FOR FALL OF 2025, N4N's is now an 8 week introductory adventure running program for adults​

 

The focus of this program is to have participants learn and implement the basics of navigation, providing all of the introductory skills needed to take part in an orienteering weekend and/or an adventure run (Raids or some solo adventure races).

 

NAV FOR NEWBS will begin Wednesday September 10th and will start with introducing the basics of map reading and navigation and will, over 8 weeks, provide the building blocks for participants to confidently take part in the Golden Leaf Orienteering Festival, November 15th/16th (note, this weekend event will serve as the week 8 session)​

SEASON SCHEDULED THEMES

Week 1: Introducing the map & map features. Map orientation 

Week 2: Introducing the compass, map folding techniques and route choice

Week 3: Contours and knowing what's important on the map

Week 4: Route planning

Week 5: Getting unlost 

Week 6: Orienteering Safety

Week 7: What's next; race preparation

Week 8: Golden Leaf Orienteering Festival

Each session for the fall will be 2 hours and will be facilitated by Kim Doogan and a couple of guest leaders with extensive knowledge related to adventure running and the sport of orienteering. Kim has been one of the main facilitators of the N4N program since its inception and is a wonderful instructor!

 

Sessions will take place on Wednesday evenings at 6:00pm and will have some discussion on the weeks topic prior to running a course. Pre-session notes will be sent out a week prior to Thursdays session to allow participants to understand the weeks topic. A full curriculum will also be shared prior to the start of the season.

CANCELLATION POLICY

In the event a registered participant is unable to participate in Nav for Newbs

• up to one week before season start we will refund 95% of the registration fee

• from one week before start and the season start we will refund 50% of the registration fee

After the season start, no refund will be provided.
