LOREE FOREST SPRING ADVENTURE RUN
APRIL 29, 2023
This will be the kick-off for our first season of events in the South Georgian Bay area! We're excited to welcome people of all ages - runners and hikers, novices and experienced navigators. Come out for a 1-hour map adventure exploring the forests and fields of The Len Gertler Memorial Loree Forest, perched above beautiful Georgian Bay.
START LOCATION
The Len Gertler Memorial Loree Forest
729153 Side Road 21, Clarksburg, ON
COURSES AND CATEGORIES:
This is an individual event but less experienced participants registered for the same Course are welcome to go out together.
ADVENTURE SCRAMBLE
Participants will have up to 1 hour to find as many checkpoints as possible using the map provided. Checkpoints will have different point values so there is some planning and strategy involved. A pen and highlighter may be helpful. A compass is recommended but not required. A limited number of loaner compasses will be available - first come, first served. This course is suitable for adults who are comfortable using maps in the outdoors.
Categories: Junior Women (Under 18), Junior Open (Under 18), Adult Women, Adult Open, Masters Women (50+), Masters Open (50+)
NOVICE COURSE
Participants will be given a map with numbered checkpoints to visit in sequence. All checkpoints will be along trails or in open areas. A compass is recommended but not required. This course is suitable for children accompanied by parents or adult beginners.
Categories: Juniors (Under 18), Adults (18+)
-
A Participant's age is their age on December 31, 2023.
-
Participants aged 12 and under must take part with an adult.
-
A parent accompanying a participating child does not need to register for the race separately but will be asked to complete a participant waiver for themselves and their child.
-
Children under age 6 may accompany a participating parent on the Novice course at no charge. The parent will need to sign a waiver on their child's behalf. Note that some younger hikers may only be able to complete part of the Novice course within the 1-hour time limit.
FREE BASIC INTRODUCTORY CLINIC
An hour before the race, we'll offer a mini-clinic to introduce newcomers to the skills they'll need to navigate with a map in this event. Bring your questions! A compass is recommended but not required. This clinic will provide participants with the basics. For a more thorough introduction to the sport, we recommend the Dontgetlost Navigation 101 course.
REGISTRATION
Please register online in advance to reserve a map for your desired event. We will be unable to accept entries on the day of the event. **Note that registration closes on Thursday, April 27 at 11:59 pm.**
