COLLINGWOOD URBAN MAP ADVENTURE
JUNE 17, 2023
Welcome to the Collingwood Urban Map Adventure!
Choose your Adventure:
1) A pure Urban Orienteering course where you will visit checkpoints throughout the downtown Collingwood area.
2) An Urban Map Adventure where you will visit checkpoints to complete Missions and get to know downtown Collingwood a little better.
You may run or walk but please obey traffic signals and be courteous to others in town.
You may find a pen and highlighter helpful to prepare your plan before the event begins.
Meet at the southern intersection of St. Paul St. and Veterans Crescent.
Parking is available throughout the downtown area. Please obey all signs. Some nearby parking options include:
West side of St. Paul St. where permitted
Parking meters on Simcoe St. west of St. Paul St.
Municipal parking Lot C at 90 St. Paul St.
On weekends, the Town of Collingwood offers free parking downtown at meters and in municipal lots.
COURSES AND CATEGORIES:
This is an individual event except for those in the Family Category, however, participants are welcome to go out together.
1) URBAN ORIENTEERING
You will have up to 1 hour to find as many checkpoints as possible using the map provided. Checkpoints will have different point values so there is some strategy involved. A compass is recommended but not mandatory. A limited number of loaner compasses will be available - first come, first served. This course is suitable for adults and juniors who are comfortable using maps in a town - although don't expect to see any street names!
Option for more adventure: If you haven't had enough after checking in at the Finish, you can head back out with the Urban Map Adventure map to complete some Missions in the remaining time until the course closes at 11:30 am. Your ranking in the Urban Orienteering event won't be affected and you'll also be ranked in the Double event.
Categories: Junior Women (Under 18), Junior Open (Under 18), Adult Women, Adult Open, Masters Women (50+), Masters Open (50+)
2) URBAN MAP ADVENTURE
You will be given a map and a list of Missions to complete. What's a Mission? "Take a photo of yourself jumping in the waves at Sunset Point." (This is not one of the real Missions but you get the idea!) You can take up to 2 hours to complete as many Missions as you choose. Missions have different point values so there is some strategy involved in selecting which ones to do. This will be fun for the whole family!
Categories: Juniors (Under 18), Adults (18+), Family Team
