Adventure Running Kids Weeknight Outdoor Adventure Program

Seeking Two Contract Site Leaders: Burlington Site Leader and Oakville Site Leader

 

Are you an adventure running kid at heart? Dontgetlost Adventure Running is seeking to fill the role for two (2) Contract Part-Time Site Leader roles – one in Burlington, one in Oakville. Each position is 10 weeks long, 4.5 hours per evening, plus any training hours. Individuals may apply to Contract Site Leader role at one or both sites.

Organization Overview

Adventure Running Kids (ARK) and Aventure Running Teens (ART) are weekly outdoor navigation programs for youth ages 6-18, operating in the Golden Horseshoe region (Hamilton, Niagara, Kitchener-Waterloo, Oakville and Burlington) by the non-profit organization Dontgetlost Adventure Running. The curricula have been developed to provide youth with the opportunity to develop physical and cognitive skills in tandem as they learn to navigation in parks and forests in each of these locations.

Job Requirements:

  • A vehicle is essential for this position. Mileage will be reimbursed.

  • Above average fitness and a comfort in the outdoors in all weather.

  • Experience leading youth sport/recreation programs and interacting with parents/volunteers.

  • Enthusiasm and positivity is a must!

  • First Aid Certification desirable.

  • Police Check Required including vulnerable sector screen.

Individuals must commit to all 10 sessions of either:
Oakville: Mondays* (*negotiable) March 30 to June 8, potential rain date June 15, approx. 3:30 pm to 8:30 pm (5 hours average); or
Burlington: – Thursdays (*negotiable) April 2 to June 4, potential rain date June 11), approx. 3:30 pm to 8:30 pm (5 hours average)
Site Leader Contract Renumeration: $1750/site for 10 weeks (training evening at additional $35/hour)

 

Job Duties
Summary:
Be present to lead and coordinate for the full evening (approx. 3:30 to 8:30 p.m.). This includes two one-hour ARK/ART sessions per location (Group 1 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm, Group 2 from 6:45 pm to 7:45 pm), plus setup time prior to session start, and tear-down/cleanup afterwards.

Responsibilities:


Arrive and set up at the meeting site for planned activities (following the established curriculum) for both ARK and ART. This may include organizing activity stations, group bins with printed materials and maps, and/or hanging flags.

Perform a safety assessment (physical and weather hazards) of all park areas and trails to be used by participants that evening, while ensuring the equipment and gear is in good order.

Greet and coordinate all participants, parents, guardians and volunteers for the session(s). Ensure evening runs smoothly, and are safety protocol compliant (parent to child ratio, attendance sheets completed, etc.).

Ongoing communications (throughout the 10-week session) with all parents, guardians and volunteers to ensure clear meetup understanding, session activity plans and expectations of volunteers, location change details, weather warnings, etc. as well as responding in a timely and clear way to any questions our registrants may have.
