XCEL is for athletes aged 14 -18 that have the desire to perform at a higher level in the sport of Adventure Running and beyond.
This new 10 week version of XCEL provides two primary programs:
1) A training program for running performance, with a focus on trail running provided by our Adventure Running Kids Program Manager Jay Thompson (BA, MA, MLIS, PhD candidate and Altis Running Endurance Coach)
The custom designed running component of XCEL will include a weekly training plan that will follow athletes through their training journey and will focus on the ARK fundamentals of Strength, Endurance, Agility, and Speed. As an experienced trail and ultra-runner, Jay will coach and support participants (virtually at first, with some components transitioning to in-person as we are able) on their individual journey to improve their running fitness and experience, enhancing their enjoyment and performances on the trails.
2) Advanced navigation training and discussions curated by various experts in the sport of adventure running.
Together with Dontgetlost Adventure Running board members, we will facilitate on a bi-weekly basis, guest speakers to lead exercises in navigation skill building, building on the skills practiced weekly through our ARK program.
Combined with enhanced running fitness and community engagement with like minded athletes, this program will support participants in their adventure running and trail running goals. This program aims to support opportunities for participation in existing DGL races and other local trail races, while improving athletes fitness levels, team dynamics and navigation skills.
